Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are used more and more in several application fields, such as in air transport management (ATM).

In this context, some algorithms including Machine Learning (ML) are used to provide decision support in air traffic management.

Although these algorithms have aim to help users, however, most of time these automated systems are not trusted by human operators seen as the decisions provided are often not intuitive and not understandable.

In order to address this challenge, the European Commission financed the EU H2020 ARTIMATION project which aims to investigate the results of artificial intelligence methods  in predicting air transportation traffic and optimizing traffic flows based on the domain of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to provide a transparent and interpretable model and to ensure safe and reliable decision support.

The Industrial Neuroscience Laboratories that host BrainSigns at Sapienza University will be directly involved in the project in the next 2 years together with:
